It was sad to see the Olympics come to an end. What a great chance it was for all of us lay aside our ideologies, politics, and differences, and just be members of the human family. It was an energy drink for the planet, something healthy to fortify it. I can imagine the whole universe smiled and said "Ah, that felt good." Looking back, if i could have been at either the opening ceremony or the closing ceremony, I would choose the closing ceremony, because of the energy of achievement that melded into the unified declaration of "We did it!" and "We are all winners here." The emotion went far beyond "The Chinese are great athletes" or The Americans are great athletes." It became "Mankind is a champion." The human spirit is a magnificent creation of God's universe. He can overcome hate. He can overcome prejudice. He can love in the face of adversity. He can forgive. At the end of the closing ceremony, as the last incredible show of fireworks lit the Beijing night sky, I felt in my heart the cry of the Chinese people "Thank you, thank you, for acknowledging us as members of the family. Thank you for letting us shine so brightly and allowing us to embrace you." And I would say "You are most welcome my brothers -- welcome home!
